This is a major annoyance for me. Volume control has to be adjusted every time I connect to Sync services. In-car adudio is un even and then when I connect to services the volume is always real real quiet. Every time I have to turn it up.. Very simple problem to fix it seems. Just memorize the last volume setting for phone calls!

Yes I completely agree with this!! Now that I understand exactly how sync uses the cell phone to access this info, I'm not exactly sure how it would be done.. But I think this is something that is really needed!!

My EVO is now working great with Sync. In addition to removing the links for facebook to get the phonebook copied over, I then did a full factory reset on the phone. I know it sounds bad, but the EVO is real real easy to set back up again. I did that to reset the bluetooth name back to factory. I read on another post chaning this default name can cause problems. After the factory reset I have not had one single problem with my Sync and Evo.

Well it appears a factory reset of my HTC Evo has resolved my problem. I'm connected through MS Exchange Active Sync and thus my contacts, e-mail and calendar were restored within minutes of the reset. Just had a few settings to tweak and some apps to download. I DID NOT change my Evo's name this time. Ever since then, it has been working FLAWLESSLY... So word to any Android users, best to leave the generic device name as is!

@ GBK I can easily see how that title can be interpreted in that way. It certainly could be clearer. No doubt about that.

FYI, I have an HTC EVO and this happens to me as well. Since the very first time I connected it, it immediately starts playing music over bluetooth. I can't hear it but it's a battery drainer!! I would love a fix for this.

I, too, could not figure this out and would very much like to know traffic conditions to my destination while en-route.

@BW-RVA I too am having this problem with bluetooth pairing with my Evo running Android 2.1. Also, one of the first things I did before connecting it to Sync was to change the devices name so it looked better than the stock name. Now my issue is more of one focused on it not connecting or it disconnecting after a few minutes, then it sometimes locks up my bluetooth on my phone causing me to pull battery to regian functionality. If you are right and it does mess up the bluetooth, and simply changing the name back doesn't fix the problem, then my hats off to google and/or HTC for really a stupid flaw. >:( At lunch today, I'm going to go out and try your steps to see if it resolves my issue. I'll post back my findings.

While I think many people would also share the interpretation of the previous posters, the word "audible" means "to hear." It has nothing to do with speaking or speech-to-text. So based on that definiton, the phrase "Audible Text Messaging" means: text messaging you can hear. And that's what SYNC does. Granted, my first question to someone selling this to me would absolutely be, "So can you respond to text messages in any way?" because that's only logical since text messaging is typically two way communication. I love this feature, just wish more phones supported it.. Oh and speech-to-text wouldn't be a bad feature to add-in one day :)

Well, I thought I was out of the woods. Now that the phonebook syncs with SYNC I started trying to use my SYNC system a lot more now. But I'm noticing it's causing all kinds of problems with my EVO.. I'll get in the car and it won't auto connect, or it will connect and later I'm driving down the road and try to use something and it tells me no phone connected. I'll look at my phone and it shows bluetooth is on and connected to sync but SYNC says it's not working. Sometimes when this happens my bluetooth on my phone will get stuck on and won't turn off at all. I'll have to pull the battery out, forcing a reboot, to get the bluetooth on/off switch to actually respond. It works about 15% of the time without issue. I'm going to see if you guys have any thoughts. I'll contact SYNC support today to see if they have any ideas. I hate to say this but I really think I'll have to swap back to my Blackberry 8530... I love the EVO but without it working with SYNC, I'm missing out on a ton of functionality.

@RevCoop - Man that was the fix for me!!! I had my Exchange active-sync linked to facebook and gmail. I killed both of those syncing to my contacts. Then I went through my contacts and deleted anything that looked odd. Pictures were still there, but no longer had the facebook "F" on them. My phonebook downloaded perfectly this morning with no issues at all! Woot! It's a shame that causes issues. Kinda takes away from the phone to have to turn that off... I'm not a major facebook user, it's mostly for the pictures and ease of use. I'd much rather have phonebook sync in my car. I can see that this would be an issue for many though.

I just got a new F-150 with Sync and I have the new EVO. I have had no issues with the two minus the issue described about the phone book. I go through the steps to download the phone book after pairing, allow it on the device. about 45 sec - 1 min later, SYNC tells me the phone has disconnected. But the phone still shows connected. It won't re-connect and I sometimes I'll have trouble turning BT off on the EVO. It goes slow and starts to lock up. Once I get BT turned off and back on it'll reconnect just fine, unless I tell it to download contacts again. I just updated SYNC software and my phone is completely up-to-date. Still same issue. Only other thing I can think to do is to not force it to download contacts. Instead just turn auto download on and let it do it on it's own. If that doesn't work I'm calling Sync support. This phone is supposed to support SYNC at the standard level, which includes downloading contacts...
