If your vehicle is only a month old just go back to your dealer and have SYNC serviced. SYNC is fully covered by the bumper to bumper warranty so you're not going to be paying for anything.

More than like the cause is that your USB stick has a slow read / write speed. Newer USB sticks respond much faster and the same applies to the latest generation of MP3 players. I'd recommend picking up a new brand name USB stick if you want a faster response time. I've found HP, SanDisk or PNY are the best both on PCs and with SYNC.

SYNC will only work with a real USB memory stick or one of the listed MP3 players like an iPod or Zune. Since the Slacker is neither type of device there is no way it will work on SYNC.

I would still like to know why Ford hasn't offered SYNC upgrade kits for "older" vehicles. Just about every single other component in Ford vehicles are superceed by newer versions over the life time of the vehicle, sometimes in the same year they are built. I can get 5 different remote start and vehicle security systems as accessories, but not a newer SYNC system? Doesn't make much sense to me, especially as an independent fleet owner who deals with repairs every day.

2.1 requires dealership equipment to be installed. There's no way around it since it upgrades more than just the SYNC module. 2.1 does add the Vehicle Health Reports and 911 Assist features. While I cannot justify the Health Reports, 911 Assist is worth the $80 or so your dealer may charge. Think of it as a cheaper insurance policy in case you are in an accident and can't dial 911.

This is most likely not a Ford issue, but a Microsoft issue going back many years. SYNC's underlying operating system is based off Windows CE 5, which does not support gapless playback.

I wouldn't bother with the web based updates as the latest version for your vehicle is 2.1 and that has to be installed by your dealer. It requries special hardware not available to the public.

It's not possible to replace the hardware yourself to due to the software differences from vehicle to vehicle. The software for every vehicle is very specific depending on the modules installed in the vehicle and their part numbers. For example, within any given vehicle model there could be 10 to 15 different radio part numbers alone. The hardware is the same, only difference is the internal software. With that being said, there's nothing stopping Ford from offering an upgrade kit. It would have to dealer installed but still possible to do.

That seems to be the new Ford theme song...SYNC is updatable as long as you purchase a brand new vehicle. There is no excuse to not adding more features to current vehicles.

That's because 2.1 is the highest your vehicle will accept.

You won't see different voices any time soon. The limitation of having different voices is the memory available on the SYNC hardware. It may happen on future vehicles with upgraded hardware.
