It doesn't seem to be a priority for the development team, as no one ever responds. Classical music without gapless playback is awful, as are several live albums and most Pink Floyd albums. I've tried mp3, wma, and AAC, and Sync will play them, but not without gaps.

I'd really rather not either re-rip or modify the files I've already got, and I'd prefer to stick with the USB drives to carry music. The only other alternative is to connect an Ipod to the AUX in, but you don't need Sync to do that.

Sure would be great to have an option to have the option of gapless playback.  Never noticed it until I tried to play Sgt. Pepper's, and having those jolting one second gaps really kills the album.  What is one to do?  Stop listening to classic thematic albums in Sync?

Yes this will get a lower priority than some of the other things going on, but it might help to have an example if you can provide one.  Thanks.

Plain and simple, there are albums out there that have a theme in which songs flow into each other.  A couple great examples are The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's and Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon.  The songs on these two albums do not have any gaps between them, but have songs that never seem to end as they continue into the next song.  To have a 1 or 2 second break kills the flow of these albums.  Another example would be listening to live albums would be jarring since the cheering between songs would be interrupted by gaps of dead air.

Ipods have the option to take out gaps between song on certain albums by selecting the option of continuous play, but itunes can also determine this for users of their software.

Ok.  It is good to have that detailed feedback for when I talk to our media device expert.  Thanks again.

Don't forget Pink Floyd's, Wish You Were Here and Frank Zappa's Apostrophe/Overnight Sensation. :-)

Gapless is pretty important -- it's the one of the two things I really wish Sync had (the other one being a larger index -- I hate having to pull songs off my player so that Sync works, but that's off-topic...), as my Zune already supports gapless.  For classical music it's a must, as noted above (which is why I hardly ever listen to classical via Sync).

But the finest example of why gapless needs to be implemented can be found on They Might Be Giants "Apollo 18" album -- try the "Fingertips" sequence and you'll see what I mean...

I found a trick to get rid of the gap.  I found it by accident and after testing various scenarios, I found that if you unplug and re-connect the USB device or shut off the vehicle and start it back up after selecting a gapless album, it plays back "gaplessly".  It works every time for me.  I have an iPod classic but the procedure works on a USB hard drive too.

What version of Sync are you using that this trick works with?
