Instead of having to go back and forth between the computer and car, why don't they just put an "Update" button in the car???!!!  Every now and then you push it, the car automatically checks the website for updates and then automatically downloads the free ones.  For those that require additional $$, let us go onto the website and let sync know we want it, then next time we push the magic in-car button...boom...there it is.  It would be so much easier.

That's a lot harder than it sounds.  What you propose would require a wireless internet connection of some kind in the car.  Maybe certain phones could do it, I don't know.

The current upgrade/update process is entirely similar to software/firmware upgrades on my cameras.  It's also the same process the dealers use.  Download the new software onto a stick or flash card, plug it in, and update.  Quite simple really.

That would be out of the question for the casual cellphone user. In order to do that you would have to have a cell phone with an unlimited data plan and a phone that supported shared internet access. As it is most carriers program phones to prevent sharing internet access with other devices.

I think that would be pretty cool And so easy. I can imagine parking my car out side of m y house, or McDonalds, or anywhere there is a network- or sync through the phone. I am having a hard time with the site using jump drives.
