For some reason I can no longer get audio when playing from a USB device on my Sync 2.0, 2009 F-150.  I have tried several devices.  The display shows as if it is playing but there is no audio.  When it last worked I was listening to music with the engine off.  After 10 minutes it shut down and stopped playing like it was supposed to.  I turned the ignition to Acc. and that's when the problem started.  Anyone have any tips or am I stuck making an appointment with the dealer and getting it reflashed?

Thanks for any help!

Dan

I did try a few different things including: doing a master reset, turning off bluetooth completely, saying "what's playing" as suggested in another thread.  None of them worked.

My truck (2009 F150 S Crew - Sync 2.0 with Nav and Sony) has done the same thing on two different occasions.  The only thing that fixed it was to turn off the audio, turn off the truck, start the truck, and then turn on the audio.

I don't have a clue as to what is causing it, but maybe Ford can answer the question.

Same problem encountered on new FORD Edge! I will attempt to shut audio, turn off car, turn on car, and turn audio back on to see if that works! My USB audio level was also pretty low when it did work.

Thanks for the reply.  I will try the sequence that works for you and hopefully it will work for me.

With the audio volume problem, mine wasn't too bad when it worked.  I use mp3gain (http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/) to adjust the gain on my MP3s.  I originally did them at 95db I think it was but I am going to bump them up a little more.  It is also very helpful so when you are listening at good volume on one song the next song doesn't blow you away or is barely audible.

I've not had the "no audio" symptom in a while, but I always just pulled the Sync fuse for about 10 seconds.  I'll have to try that power off/on method if it should happen again.

Ineresting about MP3gain.  I ran all my MP3s through it as well, but when played through Sync, the volume level does sometimes varies from song to song.  I read that MP3gain uses the APEv2 tag information and only works with devices that know how to read the tag.  MP3gain does not actually alter the MP3 data itself.

I've never got a confirmation (although I have asked) but maybe Mike could confirm if Sync does acknowledge and process the APEv2 tag.

The power off thing didn't work for me.  I will try the sync fuse though.  Didn't even think of that.

That's interesting about the MP3gain thing.  It seems to work for me but it could just be my perception.  I will have to experiment with it.

I had the same issue with an Explorer running Sync 1.3.  I took it to the dealer and they found a tech bulletin that resolved this issue.  The fix is an upgrade to the APIM to version 93LT-14D544-AE.  This should be covered under warranty.

What I find amazing is this that no one from Ford or Microsoft monitors these forums to provide answers like this.  And sync support is is aweful.  I was luck to find a dealer that is somewhat tech savvy.  The one that I purchased the vehicle from can barely spell Sync.

I also like how the "free" updates have migrated to dealer installed upgrades that are not truly free as they charge a service visit.

Hi Helmet,

I am a Ford Sync systems specialist responsible for the software platform.  Part number 9L3T-14D544-AE is the same as what is commonly known as v1.3.  So whoever said that that was an upgrade was incorrect.  So far there is only one upgrade (aside from repairs of course) that can only be done at the dealer and that is the v1 to v2 upgrade.  There is no v2 to v3 upgrade (at least not yet).

Btw, if people want more free upgrades then more people need to download and install them.  Tell your friends and neighbors.  Tell everyone!  Right now the numbers are really low.  Why isn't everyone at the latest version?
