I know it doesn't take a year to solve what is simply a software problem so, when are we going to see a fix for the bluetooth volume level?  It's obvious its a problem with the radio and not the cell phones, I base this upon the large number of posts complaining that either the phone volume is too low or the sync voice is too loud.  I really don't think everybody using the hands free phone interface is using the same phone.

I personally have tried two different model Samsung phones, a HTC Windows Mobile phone, and an HTC Android phone all four phones yielded similar results.

Hi NJ-MKZ,
I can explain this for you.  First of all,
1. The volume levels of the various audio sources are controlled primarily by the radios.  Other channel characteristics factor into the equation, but the radios provide the primary mechanism for volume control.
2. Radios are not updated in the field unless it is a repair or replacement situation.
3.  Your phone is also an important part of the chain and only you can set the volume on it.

The strategy of having the radio remember the level that you set will be improved going forward, so in newer vehicles you will be able to set the level while the particular activity is active and the system will remember it consistently.

We might come up with a workaround that can be implemented in the Sync software, but that might not work the best in all scenarios.  This is under investigation, and any progress in this area will be announced here on SMR.  I hope that helps.

Actually I find that answer to really say we don't want to fix the problem as we have redirected our resources elsewhere.  Face it he system has a problem and neither Ford nor Microsoft is addressing the issue in a timely manner.

Although I don't know how the bluetooth protocol works, I'm guessing the phone sets a volume (on the fly) by setting a specific value in the stream, this value for whatever reason is not high enough for the sync system as can been seen by having to set the volume to the upper 3/4ths of the volume scale when using the phone.  Simply boost the volume level of the incoming phone.

Perhaps you misunderstand me.  I am not here to represent Ford.  I am here on my own time to try to help you.  I meant that as an explaination only.

So you are answering as if you know what is going on with the software development but actually have no idea what Ford or Microsoft is actually planning on doing if anything with the volume issue.

NJ-MKZ... As Mike stated, he is here on his own free time, not a part of his job.  Since he began posting on the forum, many users have gained quite a bit of good information.  Please show him the respect he deserves.  We'd hate to have him stop posting.

Frankly get a better phone with volume control and you won't have this issue.  I have a Samsung BlackJack 2 the volume is fully controled thru the phone. If I turn up the phone volume all the way up the cars volume doesn't have to go above 15-20% on the radio.  Also just because you don't like a particular answer you should stop blaming someone who is here on their own time and attempts to answer questions as best he can.  There are things he can and can't divulge.  You should know by now that no company divulges plans about what they are working on until they are ready to do so.

My hopes of getting a timely fix for this serious deficiency have been torpedoed. Sync version 2.1 came out today, I have installed it, and it DOES NOT contain the fix. This is really a very simple thing and I can't imagine why Ford won't just include it. I reject any notion that this problem should be taken care of within the phone. All decent bluetooth accessories include this (and we need to keep in mind that our 3000 pound vehicles are simply an accessory to the phone).

Actually I have tried multiple phones from different manufacturers all produced similar results. Also judging by the amount of messages complaining about the volume level i'd say the blackjack would be more of the exception rather than the rule. Oh and I'm not even sure the blackjack is even available any longer, not that I'd give up the Android phone.

As I said above, it may be possible to create a workaround.  A workaround such as this does not belong in the Sync image and therefore will not be.  If anything it would be in the form of an application.  This is under investigation.  The longer term solution will involve a more systemic approach.  Sync is not a headset.  At the present time, it is a part of a complex array of different mutimedia systems.
