I love Sync.  I almost didn't opt for Sync when I bought the car, but I'm glad I did and will probably continue to buy Fords because of it.  I am a gadget lover and will be buying the new Motorola Droid phone when it becomes available, but I have noticed there has been some conflicts between Sync and Android.  Will this be corrected in the future?  Will BlueTooth 2.0 in Android 2.0 allow for text messages to be read? Will there be Android Apps written so turn-by-turn directions from my phone can be read over Sync? I like where technology is going with everything intergrating together, I just hope two hugely competitive companies like Microsoft and Google don't make it frustrating for consumers to get what they want.

You can already hear Android's turn-by-turn directions over Sync: Simply switch Sync to Bluetooth Audio. It's not as nice as the Sync Services' directions (no music interruption, no info on the radio display), but it works.

Text messages will probably take some time. Technically, the Message Access Profile of Bluetooth isn't a finalized part of the Bluetooth standards, so Linux's Bluez stack (and thus Android) doesn't support it.

Consider me another Android fan. Apple dominates right now, but it's too exclusive to remain on the top into the future when it comes to phone/mp3 devices that people are most likely going to want interacting with their sync. I have this fear that becasue sync is a Microsoft product it will favor zunes and such over third party products, instead of focusing on Ford needs. So far so good though despite my G1 not working.

Oh, and eff Best Buy they are ripoff artists.

Uh oh.. I have already pre ordered my Droid from Best Buy. How does anyone know with an released OS and phone that the contacts and such dont work? I am dumping my cruddy BB Storm for the Droid. I thought  because its open source and Google with newest of everything I may even get my WHOLE sync working meaning texting. We may loose more stuff going with the Droid? Doesnt make sense. Think it should be the most current or is Microsoft/Ford behind the game here??? Droid is going to be huge on the biggest network. This will be a huge problem for Ford and service techs on Sync help lines. Hope they are on this!

Microsoft and Ford are actually slightly ahead they support the "texting" profile from bluetooth and the phones do not.  The problem is they can't test all the phones and especially the one's that just barely came out.  I hope the droid does implement the MAP bluetooth profile but there is no guarantee since the majority of handset makers don't implement the full Bluetooth stack only what you need with the handsfree ear sets.. means no texting etc.

Unless there is a new list of features on phones supported (the list on this site is not up to date).. your best bet is to get a friendly Verizon rep that will let you play with the phone and try to pair it with sync and see what features do work or give you a 30 day return policy if you find that the features are missing.

I'm getting my Droid tomorrow - if the sales guy will let me "test" it.  I'll report here when and if I have it working.

I currently have a Palm Treo 700w (windows mobile) and it isn't much good with sync.  I had to upgrade the Bluetooth stack on the treo in order to get it to talk to sync.  It works ok, but I can only converse hands free if I am sitting still - too much ambient noise even though my 2008 Edge Limited is pretty quiet.  Sync "drops" the phone at random times and it has to be re-connected.  This can happen 4 or 5 times on a 3 hour trip or once a week - totally random.

I'm really hoping the Droid will be better.

I have a Droid. It paired up with some difficultly (you have to type really fast or the pairing process fails, weird). Then it downloaded only about a dozen of about 120 contacts I had, I can't see the pattern for those that did it vs those that didn't. The worse part, no txt mssage support :(

I'm going to try the 2.1 update though ... hope hope!

Any news on the 2.1 update vs. Droid? I just installed the 2.1 update, and should be receiving the Droid tomorrow evening. Hoping it works at least as good as the Dare it's replacing. Good luck, all. Scott

Update: The Droid will not sync the contacts/phone book and it will not do txt messaging :(

Since I can't return the Expy, the Droid is going back and I'm switching back to AT&T and my Razr V3
