My sync worked great for about a day - now the usb port doesn't work - it displays "USB Empty" I have a Ipod Touch and really want to be able to use it via the usb port. I have tried the master reset - did not fix - which fuse controls the sync system? I do not see a location that simply states "Sync". Please help. My car is only 1 week old!!

Best advice, take it back to the Ford Dealer where you got it to fix. My Edge is also very new (a couple of weeks). My USB was working (ie playing MP3 and Windows Media Audio (WMA) formatted songs on my flash drive. Then is stopped giving any sound but you see it recognized the USB by the normal appearance on the digital readout on the dash. It would  play  the dealers personal i-Pod in the USB but not mine. They  had to reinitialize the Sync according  to them. However, since they did that, Sync recognizes the MP3 formated songs on the flash drive but not the Window Media (WMA) songs. I just finished taking with Sync Help Online and he was totally useless. He had not clue. He must be a rookie working the weekend. Hope this is helpful to you. JNOHL1

I just had a similar problem. My fusion hybrid is 3 weeks old. I had my ipod touch v 2.2.1 connected to the USB port and my iphone 3G paired on bluetooth. I was playing my music through the ipod touch-USB without any problem. Yesterday I upgraded my iphone to software version 3.0. Now my Sync connects to the iphone via bluetooth stereo ("BTST") but the ipod touch is not recognized through the USB port at all. Anything I connect to the USB port is not recognized by Sync- it says no USB device is connected. I want to continue to play music through the USB port and use my iphone for bluetooth calling but not music streaming. I already tried resetting my ipod and deleting the iphone from bluetooth but still no USB recognized and ipod not charging. Any suggestions?

There is a TSB for a sync update that the dealer can do.  It is TSB # 08-25-3, and supposedly fixes the following issues:

SYNC® steering wheel control (SWC) switches being inoperative.
Voice recognition on 2 digit entries.
USB port inoperative.
Error message of voice commands are not available - due to duplicate iPod playlists.
Phone book download of supported phones

If you tell them your USB port is inoperative and mention the above TSB #, they will apply the TSB to update and fix your car.

I had the same problem. I took my car to the dealership and did a full reset of the system and worked with my ipod touch. But, a month later I experienced the problem again. So I went to the dealership and told me that people are having problems using the iPod Touch and iPhones while in use via USB. It shuts off the functionality of the USB port. They told me that as of 6/24 that so far there is no update to fix this problem yet. They are still in development in trying to solve this issue. So for now, I reverted back to an older iPod until an update is available for the car.

I brought my fusion hybrid back to the dealer last week, and told them about ToddG's suggested TSB 08-25-03. They seemed to ignore this as an older fix and as you say claim this is a problem with Ipod Touches. This seems somewhat strange, as I have said before, my ipod Touch was working just fine through USB and was peacefully co-existing with my iphone 3G (used for phone only through bluetooth pairing) until I upgraded the iphone to v 3.0. Since then, Sync detects the iphone bluetooth music streaming, but my USB jack is dead! Even when I try plugging the iphone into USB, nothing is recognized, and I can only play music through the iphone BT.

Unfortunately, I don't still have any older ipods to use, so I guess I'm stuck with iphone bluetooth streaming until either Apple or Ford comes up with a fix. I have also read elsewhere online about pulling the fuse out and putting it back in , has anyone tried this?

I had the same problem once i did the Iphone Update..  My usb worked for a while and now is dead.  When my music is playing via bluetooth it cuts out every 25 seconds for about 1 second then continues playing... very annoying, does anyone else have this problem..

Yes I have the same problem with the BT cutting out once or twice a minute, and as I have already stated, my USB is dead since switching my iphone 3G to 3.0. So now I have an ipod Touch that won't work through USB, and the iphone BT is crappy! Help!

Resetting the ipod Touch or removing the fuse were suggestions made in this thread: http://boards.synccommunity.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?sr=y&msg=1045.3&nav=messages&webtag=fordsyncmb
